Trompe L'Oeil?

No, you're not looking at a contortionist. This is how Olivia looked when she came downstairs this morning.

I know there are some jeans out there that are supposed to have the big back pockets on the front, but believe me when I tell you this pair isn't high fashion. They're on backwards.

Olivia was such a good sport about it. After I took the picture above I asked her if she noticed anything funny about her pants. She laughed and quickly took them off and put them on the right way. KIDS!!!

Horse Camp

Mix together one horse-crazed 9-year-old, 39 other crazed kids, 20 horses, 20 hours of trail rides, 5 days, 2 swimming pools, 2 bounce houses, countless goats, donkeys, pigs, chickens and ducks, one tie-dyed shirt, countless bottles of water and Gatorade, 100 degree days, numerous sunscreen applications, two doses of Motrin, and one finale rodeo and you get one exciting and tiring week at Frisco Horse Park.

Olivia rode the same horse every day. They call him Kiwi. Yes, Kiwi. Kiwi seemed to really like Olivia. He could be as stubborn as a donkey, but overall he was a pretty good horse. Olivia enjoyed feeding him pears and carrots as special treats before their trail rides.

In the car on our way home from camp on Monday, Olivia said she felt like she was still on her horse. I think we all know that feeling. She also said she had a bad headache and her body hurt. That was her first dose of Motrin. I gave her another one the next morning as a preventive measure. It seemed to do the trick. Her second day was much easier. She said that day she had to let Kiwi know who was BOSS.

Below, Olivia is the one in the blue helmet. The kids are on their way to the rodeo. The two-hour rodeo during the hottest part of the day in the middle of a wide open field filled with dirt on a unexpectedly windy day with almost no where to sit and absolutely no shade. Yep, we were all ready for the rodeo.

Since the camp counselors wouldn't let the kids leave until every last kid had gotten their turn at showing off their skills, we waited and watched for another hour. Olivia was done shortly after 4 o'clock, but more than half of the kids hadn't had their turn yet. So, we stayed and cheered. For. Every. Last. Rider. But we weren't done yet. They still had to get the horses back to the barn and unsaddle them.

Olivia showing off her equine skills and Kiwi showing her how stubborn he is. Come on give that horse a swift kick!!

After the rodeo, Olivia got a Certificate of Equine Excellence. She worked hard for it. I think she was ready for a nap, though. Oh, notice the tan? It's part tan, part dirt. She really had a great time and learned all about horses!

We're already looking forward to next summer so Olivia can go to horse camp again. This was definitely a week to remember for Olivia.

Thursday...

On Monday, Olivia started her horse camp. There's more to come from the horse park. She has a "rodeo" coming up tomorrow afternoon. We'll surely have pictures to share.

The next two pictures were taken tonight. Erin loves to feed treats to the cat. When you say "kitty cat", Erin says "kah kee?". I love hearing her say it. Tonight, when she found the cat's treats, she had to find the cat. In my closet. And every last treat was on the floor of my closet. Camille was enjoying it and so was Erin. This kid loves animals. She has never once been afraid of one, which of course scares me sometimes.

I made fudge to take to work and Erin got to lick the spoon for the first time. At least I think it was the first time. Maybe the second. Either way, it's darn cute to see my baby beg for chocolate and then end up with it all over her mouth. Look at that smile!

Olivia's Birthday Party

Olivia celebrated her 9th birthday on July 6th and we had her party today! Asheera and Jenna helped make sure that Olivia had an exciting birthday. The girls swam, ate lunch, ate cake and headed for Frisco Horse Park- Olivia's new favorite place.

Olivia blowing out her candle. Yes, candle. We couldn't find the candles we thought we had. So, the zero from my birthday last summer had to suffice. The cake was one of the best I've ever had. It was from Baskin Robins. Devil's food with vanilla ice cream. And the ice cream had little bits of chocolate throughout. Delicious.

The little ones rode ponies while the big kids rode horses. I don't have pictures of Erin on the pony because I was on the phone with Asheera's mom the entire time. I don't have pictures of Olivia on her horse because they were on the trail by the time we got to the park with the little ones. Use your imaginations...

This is the goat that was roaming around. He definitely wasn't your typical goat. He came right up to us and even let the kids pet him. He hung around the entire time! Ryan and Erin loved that goat. They were both more interested in him than the pony. I love the look on Ryan's face. Don't let him fool you he wasn't the least bit afraid.

We're Still Alive

We are all still alive. Sorry if all three of you have checked in and been disappointed that I haven't posted. I've been too tired to get a good one together. We're celebrating Olivia's 9th birthday tomorrow, which should provide plenty of fun pictures to share. Check back in a couple of weeks. Maybe I'll get to it by then. : )
